Worth more than a tender score.
Social value now counts for at least 10% of most public-sector tenders - and clients increasingly ask what their supply chain contributes. Ours is a working part of every engagement: logged, measurable, reportable. Not a marketing line.
Why it matters now
Under the Procurement Act 2023 and PPN 06/20, public sector buyers must weight social value at a minimum of 10% in most tenders - and Tier 1 contractors are passing that expectation down their supply chains. If you bid for public work, your consultants' contribution counts towards yours.
Where BSA is engaged on your project, our social value activity can be reported against your TOMs framework - or whatever reporting model your client uses. We keep a log of every activity: date, audience, hours, and the financial value of any reduced fee. At the end of each contract period, you get written evidence for your reporting. No chasing.
Careers people can see.
Construction gave us our careers. Most of the young people who'd thrive in this industry never hear it mentioned - so we go where they are. All of it pro bono; BSA absorbs the costs.
What health and safety in construction actually involves, the careers behind it, and the qualification routes in - aimed at schools where construction isn't on the usual list.
Practice interviews for college students and apprentices heading for construction. Real questions, honest feedback, proper preparation.
When schools or colleges visit our clients' sites, we deliver the safety briefing - the visit gets safer and more educational, and your site team stays focused on hosting it.
Tony mentors graduate and early-career practitioners working toward CMIOSH - open to clients who employ TechIOSH or GradIOSH staff and want to back their progression.
Competent advice, where the budget isn't.
Village halls, community centres and charitable building schemes carry the same legal duties as commercial projects - usually with no in-house expertise and no budget for full-rate professional advice. That's exactly where competent advice matters most.
Discounted support for community-led building projects - most are notifiable under CDM, and the duties don't shrink because the client is a charity.
We sit in trustee and committee meetings where competent advice is needed in the room - scoping CDM duties before a scheme goes to tender, or making sense of obligations on a refurbishment.
A community-led village hall in rural Lancashire, referred to BSA by one of our contractor clients. The trust had no in-house H&S expertise and no commercial budget for full-rate advice. BSA delivered fire risk and legionella support at a 50% reduced fee, and attended a trustee committee meeting pro bono - a measurable, in-kind contribution to a community asset that would otherwise have struggled to access competent advice.
Measured, not marketed.
BSA reserves a fixed share of its annual chargeable capacity for social value - pro bono work, school and college engagement, trustee support and mentoring, alongside reduced-fee community projects.
Every activity is logged with hours, audience and equivalent financial value, and can be reported against your TOMs framework or equivalent model on request. If it isn't measured, it's a marketing line - and we don't do those.
Fifteen minutes is enough to know whether BSA is the right fit.
The fastest way is a phone call - but email works too. No obligation.
